Sri Lanka Navy arrests 12 Indian fishermen for poaching in territorial waters




  • Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 12 Indian fishermen and seized their three trawlers yesterday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Sri Lankan Naval personnel on Saturday apprehended the Indian fishermen along with three fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters near the Delft Island, according to Indian fisheries officials. The captured fishermen, all belonging to Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram district, have been taken to Kankasanthurai Naval Camp for interrogation, ANI reported. Recently, at least 16 Tamil Nadu fishermen had been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing in their waters near Katchatheevu Island in Palk Strait.
