Parliament will be convened on February 8 to debate two key reports ahead of the scheduled dates, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today. He said that Parliament will be convened on February 8 to debate the report of the Presidential Commission which investigated the treasury bond scam and the report of the Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate into serious acts of fraud and corruption. Parliament was earlier set to debate the reports on February 20 and 21st. However President Maithripala Sirisena had noted that the debate must take place before the Local Government elections on February 10. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had also urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to take steps to hold the Parliament debate on the reports before the Local Government elections.
